Great day today. We worked on the first part of "The Rape of the Lock" in the comfort of the Opus Cafe. It was a great way to both study and to pay our respects to the concept of the coffee house which originated in the 18th Century The coffee houses were meeting places for great discussion and debates about all kinds of topics. The tradition continues today.

We started a new unit today. We watched about 20 minutes of the movie "Restoration" to get an idea of the context for the poems. Then we began with they background info for "The Rape of the Lock" by Alexander Pope. We discussed "parody" (thank you Weird Al)  and ran out of time when we started writing our own lines of a mock epic description of Slim Kitty and D-Pizzle. Tomorrow is KING LEAR KRANIUM!! Coffeehouse Field trip on Wed.

After all the fun and action of yesterday, we dealt with the biggest theme of King Lear this morning. The main focus was on the following question: "Is there any justice in the universe?" More specifically related to the play itself:

Is "King Lear" a statement of intense and unrelieved pessimism, or a statement of man's greatness and dignity in the face of suffering? You decide.

The final instalment of the play ended (like the original) with blood and bodies everywhere. Thank you so much for your energy and enthusiasm. I'm putting together a few video highlights now.

What a day! Such awesome performances from the cast, and such a great effort from those people in charge of sets, photography, costumes... today was awesome! Thank you so much for your efforts. Tomorrow we will take a break from the chaos of King Lear in respect for the Remembrance Day ceremony. We will finish up the play about halfway through next week. Don't forget to get any missing assignments in! Great job everybody!!

Wrote the quiz today on Act I & II (Re-Quiz is Friday at lunch) We watched the gory scene of Gloucester getting his eyes poked out and finishe with about 20 min of prep time for tomorrow's live production. Dance practice for the storm scene was particularly inspiring.

Finished with a very quick activity so I could use some photos for my entry into the film festival on Monday for Meditation 17 by John Donne. Can't wait until the festival!
